Skim Coat Plaster
Hempire Skim Coat Plaster is a traditional material made without any gypsum or acrylic polymers and as a result are flexible, easy to work with and most importantly extremely breathable.
The Product
Ready to use factory prepared hemp fibre re-enforced hot lime plaster with mineral aggregates. The material is lightweight, has good coverage, anti-splash and good bonding characteristics.
Suitable Uses
The material is suitable as a finish coat over ‘Hempire Scratch Coat’ on internal surfaces.
Composition
Milled and screened whole hemp, high calcium lime, mineral aggregates and water supplied as a pre-formulated mix, which requires some agitation before use.
Performance
A solid lightweight fibre re-enforced material combines masonry and organic qualities. The material has good breathable, insulating, thermal mass, flexible and hygroscopic qualities.

Application
Applied manually using steel plastering trowel. Spray gun can be used but superior finish achieved manually. Use only clean water without admixtures.
Use an electric hand mixer and mix thoroughly before application. Can be applied at thicknesses of 3-8 mm.
Finishing
Internally: Use steel float for fine finish.
Weather Conditions
Do not apply below 5°C. Maintain temperature above 50C in winter months.
Paint
Use only breathable paints.
Background
Suitable for a wide range of substrates. Background to be stable and dust free. Highly absorbent surfaces should be dampened beforehand.
Regulating Atmosphere
Internally: Care most be taken to reduce humidity during drying phase. Provide adequate ventilation or heat and dehumidification.
KEEP A POSITIVE DRYING ATMOSPHERE.
General Guidelines
High humidity and non-absorbent substrates will increase setting time.
Plaster benefits from working and compression with steel float. Lime is a caustic material with abrasive mineral components,
take care to protect finished surface from lime staining and scratching by covering and/or cleaning as work progresses.
In renovation work mineral staining may sometimes occur. In this unlikely event consult a painting expert to achieve a breathable finish.
In renovation work, strip non-breathable renders from wall, rake out non breathable pointing, provide adequate drainage around building and ensure breathable floor is installed to avoid forced migration of rising damp in walls. Where adequate steps have been taken allow time for walls to gradually dry out.
Do not use in damp basements.
